Gordon Shedden put his circuit knowledge to good effect by setting the pace in practice for the British Touring Car Championship round at Knockhill. The Honda driver, who works at the track during the week, was quickest during the morning session and knocked 0.3 seconds off his best time in the afternoon to set the pace in 53.092s. The top three positions were all filled by Hondas, but a surprising second was the Tech-Speed Integra of Paul O'Neill, despite him driving on tyres with a full race distance on them from the last round at Silverstone
British Formula 3 champion Jean-Eric Vergne's Formula Renault 3.5 debut has been dealt a blow after the Frenchman's two fastest times in qualifying were annulled for crossing the track limits at the first corner, Nordkurve. Tech 1 Racing's Vergne drops from 11th to 23rd on the grid as a result of the penalty
Bradley Smith beat 125cc championship leader Marc Marquez to pole position at Misano with an outstanding final lap. It was the first wet F2 race of the year and Stoneman revelled in the tricky conditions, charging into the lead before the first corner from fifth on the grid. He did not look back from there as he pulled away by around a second per lap during the first half of the race to open a mammoth 15-second lead, which he would maintain to the end
