Hayden admits 14th is ‘unacceptable’

Nicky Hayden said he only had himself to blame for his poor qualifying result at Misano, as he could only manage 14th on the grid - 11 places behind his Ducati team-mate Casey Stoner. The American had been the quickest of the Ducatis on Friday, but admitted that his qualifying session had been a mess and that the result was way below the bike's potential. "It's not good

Huff eager to get back into title fight

Rob Huff is eager to capitalise on his strong qualifying performance at Oschersleben to turn the World Touring Car Championship back into a four-way fight for the title. He qualified second for Sunday's first race and although Augusto Farfus has pole, the Brazilian is working to help BMW team-mate Andy Priaulx's chances.

De Villota pulls out of Adria round

Atletico Madrid's Maria de Villota has withdrawn from this weekend's Superleague Formula meeting at Adria after aggravating an old neck injury. De Villota - who has driven for Atletico Madrid in all but one of the Superleague rounds the team has entered this year - explained that an injured disc in her neck had caused her extreme discomfort and provided her with only limited use of her right arm during second free practice.

Michelisz vows to overcome penalty

Norbert Michelisz says he is determined to make up for his 10-place grid penalty with an aggressive start in tomorrow's first World Touring Car race at Oschersleben. The Hungarian qualified fifth today but the demotion will leave him in the midfield. Knowing his SEAT Leon TDi is particularly strong at rolling starts, he is planning to go on the attack early with the target of eighth place and pole position for race two

Di Resta surprised by pole margin

Paul di Resta has admitted that he was surprised by his advantage in DTM qualifying at Brands Hatch, where he stormed to pole position on Saturday. The Scot topped all four segments of qualifying, and his advantage was so great in the pole position deciding Q4 session that he was able to take pole despite running wide onto the grass coming out of the last corner.

BMW offers 2011 engine to customers

BMW has confirmed that it will make its next generation engine package available to teams in the World Touring Car Championship next season. The German manufacturer has been developing its 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit - the engine specification which will be adopted by the WTCC and World Rally Championship in 2011 - throughout this summer. BMW is expected to move into the DTM in 2012, but has not yet confirmed its motorsport programme for next season

Anderlecht’s Rigon takes Adria pole

Anderlecht's Davide Rigon will start tomorrow's opening Superleague Formula race in Adria from pole position after defeating Beijing Guoan's John Martin in the knockout final. Rigon set the pace early on during the knockout stages - recording the fastest time of the day as he did so with 1m06.128s - and lapped the Adria Raceway nearly half a second faster than Martin in the final.

Dovizioso blames errant set-up change

Andrea Dovizioso admitted that he went in the wrong direction with his set-up after struggling to eighth on the grid at Misano. The Italian had been second behind his dominant Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa on Friday, but while Pedrosa stormed to pole today, Dovizioso was 0.878 seconds slower and back on row three

Capirossi: Traffic cost me top six start

Loris Capirossi believes he could have reached row two of the San Marino Grand Prix grid had he not been baulked in qualifying. The Italian instead ended up a frustrated 11th - a huge disappointment on what had looked set to be Suzuki's best weekend in several months. The struggling team has only achieved one top five start and one top five finish so far this season, but Capirossi had been in the lower part of the top 10 throughout practice at Misano and was optimistic that he was on the cusp of a breakthrough.

Stoneman on pole, Palmer only 14th

Dean Stoneman has given himself the chance to move into a strong position in the Formula 2 title race after taking pole position for Sunday's second race at Oschersleben, while rival Jolyon Palmer could only manage 14th. With the damp circuit drying throughout the half hour, the session's last laps were always going to be decisive. Stoneman - who took a six-point lead in the standings after his victory earlier today - unleashed a 1m22.3s lap in the final minutes to claim the top spot.
