Lowe’s Motor Speedway hosted Week Five of 2010 Season One’s Advanced Legends Cup Series, where a week’s worth of online racing on the quarter mile track produced some 20 new race winners and more lead changes than you can count.

At the halfway point of the season, the championship points race in Division One is led by New York’s Robert Ackley with Tyler Castle following some 43 points behind and Michael Vaughn in third and trailing Ackley by 70 points. From the perspective of race wins, however, the clear leader is Connecticut’s Sandro Vitelli, who has posted a total of 42 victories so far this season. Fourth in the Division One points race, Vitelli can be expected to be in the chase to win the season championship as the Advanced Legends Cup sim racers head to fun but tricky Oxford Plains this week.
I caught up with Sandro and discussed the coming week’s action.
“I think it should make for good racing, how the track is set-up with flat turns,” he said. “It makes the races more competitive.”
Although Vitelli believes the Advanced Legends Series would benefit by adding some more Legends ovals to the schedule, the fact that four drivers are in contention for the Division One championship attests to the competitiveness of the schedule.
Similarly competitive scenarios are found throughout the Advanced Legends Cup. Division Two finds MidSouth’s Kyle Hatfield leading New England iRacer Christopher Burgess, while Ivan Giovanni of Club DE-AT-CH is ahead of Virginian David Kadlcak in Division Three. New Englander Kevin Tourigny is out front of Division Four with Shawn Jakes in second spot and, in one of the closest of the divisional contests, Northwest’s Curtis Skene is just seven points ahead of Carolina’s Brian Morrow.
In Division Six it’s a battle of two Midwesterners, with Bob Howard ahead of Wayne Kauchak, while Texan Greg Venable leads Division Seven from Australia’s Patrick Pigman. Robert Worthington tops the Division Eight standings ahead of Rich Webster, while Michael Grey and Jonathan Lund are out front in Division Nine and Massachusetts’ Chris Curtis leads Paul Ford of England in Division Ten. Finally, as the season reaches the halfway stage, Carolinas’ Keith Medeiros is the leading rookie points-getter with 354, 29 better than Midwest’s Matthew Deaton.
Much of that is subject to change at Oxford Plains but, no matter the specifics of the points races, we can all look forward to lots of close Advanced Legends Cup racing in the weeks to come . . . which means a ton more competition for the top drivers and the rest of us as well.
