The American Sports Car

Throughout my life, American cars have been pretty much regarded by Europeans as rubbish. Compared with European sports cars, the supposed American sports cars even more so. Of course they have had their moments in movies. The ’68 Mustang GT 390 was iconised by Steve McQueen in the film “Bullitt” for instance and even the modern day Shelby Mustang GT500

Last Minute Deal for Darryn

2010 has been a year where sponsorship troubles have already caused Darryn Lobb to miss one round of the South African Shelby Can-Am Championship. Things didn’t seem much better for Round Six of the championship earlier this month, as Darryn found himself without budget to make the grid, despite leading the championship once again after a double win at Zwartkops

Indy’s tough in real, virtual life

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- My No. 64 Sprint Cup Car approaches the Yard of Bricks, that famous piece of real estate on the front straightaway at Indianapolis Motor Speedway that race car drivers yearn to kiss. I'm going 170 mph. "Stay on the gas," says the voice in my ear. 180. "You ain't going to get to 200," the voice says.

The problem with sim racing is…

The lack of excuses! When I look at the lap records for a given track, I am usually in the top quarter, quite often in the top ten percent. Yet the gap to the top drivers seems positively cavernous and, quite simply, unachievable, even if I sold the wife and kids and devoted the remainder of my life to sim

Gooden Continues to Make his Mark

Wyatt Gooden continues to make his mark, online and on and off the race track.  Days after scoring his first win in the SCCA's 2010 VW Jetta TDI Cup race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Gooden was the subject of this feature story in the "Cleveland Plain Dealer" Gooden starts to burn up the track in the VW TDI
