Calado fastest in Spa practice

James CaladoCarlin’s James Calado set the pace during today’s practice for the British Formula 3 Championship’s visit to Spa this weekend.

Calado had been quickest in the wetter morning session by 0.7 seconds, but as the track dried in second practice almost everyone went quicker than his 2m36.769s morning best.

Several drivers topped the timesheets during the session and improvements came thick and fast in the closing moments. Calado was not the last to complete a flying lap, but he was the quickest, recording 2m17.020s. That beat his team-mate and championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne by 0.7s.

Hitech’s William Buller, who had traded fastest times with Calado and Carlin’s Rupert Svendsen-Cook earlier in the session, was third.

Alexander Sims was fastest of the visiting F3 Euro Series runners, recording 2m18.526s for fourth in his ART Dallara.

Championship contender Oliver Webb was sixth for Fortec, 1.7s behind Calado, while Svendsen-Cook ultimately slipped to seventh.

Visiting Prema driver Nicolas Marroc, who was sixth in the morning session, ended up eighth.
